Colombia tourism promotion auction hits Times Square

Two-time Latin Grammy winner from Colombia, Fonseca, will appear in New York City’s Times Square to kick-start an innovative 10-day campaign to promote a positive image for Colombia.

Fonseca will be joined in New York by coffee icon Juan Valdez and the queen of Barranquilla’s Carnival, Daniela Cepeda Tarud, as well as a display of 5,000 Colombian flowers to launch Marca Pais’ (Colombia Country Brand) marketing strategy to promote business and tourism in Colombia.

Between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM on April 18-28, passers-by will be invited to take part in an “auction” to win one of six unique Colombian experiences.

Interactive billboards between 46th Street and Broadway will display videos of the experiences that are up for grabs and viewers can enter into the auction by connecting to an app on their smartphones or tablets.

The participants will then be required to share a video of the experience they want to win and ask their friends to vote for them via the app. The competitor with the most votes after 30 minutes will win an all expenses paid trip to live out the experience in Colombia.

The six unique experiences available to participants are: Humpback whale spotting off the Pacific coast, an Ibero-American theater festival in Bogota, a coffee tour, a trip to the Caribbean city of Cartagena, a trip to Colombia’s second city Medellin and a foray to monolithic religious monuments in the south-central Huila department.
