Colombia soccer league semifinal round 6 preview

Sunday’s soccer round of matches will determine which two teams progress to the final stage of the Liga Postobon and thus have a chance of playing for the Colombian Championship.

Currently Deportivo Pasto and Independiente Medellin lie in pole position to progress as they head Groups A and B respectively.

Medellin required a late equalizer against their fierce city rivals Atletico Nacional on Thursday night to maintain their one-point lead at the top.

German Ezequiel Cano popped up eight minutes from time to slam home a header and send the red half of the packed stadium into raptures.

The 1-1 result means that DIM will qualify for the final if they beat Itagui on Sunday evening. If they lose, however, Itagui will be the ones who progress.

Nacional could still sneak in through the back door if they beat La Equidad at home and the other match is a draw.

In Group A, Pasto have their fate in their own hands, knowing that a win against Deportes Tolima would send them to the next round.

Tolima won the reverse fixture 3-0 but have failed to win a match since and currently sit bottom of the table with four points. They will be eliminated even if they win on Sunday.

If Pasto slips up, Millonarios and Junior will look to take advantage when they meet in the capital of Bogota. Junior need to win to stand any chance of progression, while Millonarios could qualify with a draw, provided Pasto loses.
