Colombia soccer league semifinal round 3 review

Junior managed to snatch the group A top spot after the second weekend of the Liga Postobon final-eight stage draws to a close.

The northern team left their home game against Deportes Tolima with one point from a 1-1 draw. the game remained goalless until the 74th minute when Tolima striker, Charles Jose Velez.

Millonarios appear to be getting in to the swing of things after a 1-0 win at home against Deportivo Pasto in the form of a goal from Wilberto Cosme in the 42nd minute.

As the final eight stage enters it’s third week Junior stand at the top of group A on seven points while Deportivo Pasto and Millonarios take second and third place respectively on six points each. Deportivo Tolima trail on four points.

Medellin managed to vault themselves to the top of group B after a 1-0 win at home against Bogota based La Equidad. William Zapata made a dash for the ball in the area, subsequently knocking it in to the back of the net and claiming the only goal of the match for Medellin in the 78th minute.

Group B rankings currently show Medellin at the top with seven points, followed by La Equidad in second place on six points. Itagui sit in third place on four points while Atletico Nacional, group B favorites, lag behind with only three points.

All teams have played four matches while Itagui and Atletico Nacional have played three. Fixtures in the coming week will see each team battling for survival and a spot in the semifinals. Junior look to be on good form with only one loss to their name in their last four matches, while Millonarios will have to step up their game if they want to live up to their reputation as hot favorites.
