After a 1st leg stalemate Independiente Medellin and Millonarios will do battle Sunday to see who will be crowned Colombian Liga Postobon champions 2012.
Neither side were able to find the net in a tentative match at the Estadio Atanasio Girardot on Wednesday night meaning that the game in Bogota comes down to a winner-takes-all match up.
Millonarios will inevitably enter the contest as favorites as they will have a bumper home crowd supporting them.
Medellin, however, will be out to cause an upset and come away with a victory which would ensure a sixth league title in their history.
DIM head coach Hernan Dario Gomez has said that his side will “not be intimidated in Bogota” although the size of the task facing them is exemplified by the fact that Millonarios have not lost on their home soil in 10 games in all competitions this season.
“Millonarios are the team with the most goals in the tournament and despite failing to score in the last game we cannot despair. We have scorers and I have faith,” said Gomez.
For Millonarios the opportunity of their first title since 1988 is one which midfielder Jhonny Albeiro Ramirez is relishing, although he is fully aware of the treat Medellin pose.
“Medellin is and remains a difficult team despite the 0-0 at the Atanasio. We have already got the result in Medellin and now we have to win at home. I am sure will aim to keep a clean sheet and we’re psyched to get the star,” he said.
The game at Estadio El Campin kicks off at 17.30 on Sunday evening with the whole of the country waiting to see who will succeed Santa Fe as the champions of Colombia.
