The number of tourists in Colombia grew by 126 per cent in the last six years. According to a study of the National Police, Bogota is the most visited city in the country.

While only 541,000 foreigners came to Colombia in 2002, 1,222,966 tourists chose this country as a travel destination in 2008.
According to the study, Bogota is the most visited city. Over 50 per cent of the 425,082 registered tourists in the first quarter of 2009 visited Colombia’s capital.
Second place takes Cartagena, followed by Medellin, Cali and Barranquilla.
Furthermore, the study showed a phenomenon which no Colombian city has experienced before: Pasto, capital of the Nariño department, reported an increase of tourists of 1143 per cent. Only 405 foreign travelers found their way to Pasto in 2008 whereas 5037 tourists visited the city this year so far.
