Colombia invites golf tourism entrepeneurs to test courses

In an offensive to promote Colombia as a golf tourism destination, the country’s tourism and export promotion agency says it has invited golf critics and members of the Global Gold Tourism Organisation (IAGTO) to try out some of the country’s golf courses.

According to a press release by Proexport, the golf tourism entrepeneurs began their business visit Monday and will visit golf courses in Bogota, Medellin, and Cartagena.

The golf critics and journalists will stay in the capital where they will hear about the Colombia’s golf tourism possibilities ahead of the February 16 kick-off of the Pacific Rubiales Colombia Championship which already had announced the presence of former U.S. President Bill Clinton.

In January, U.S. television network Golf Channel was in Colombia to film a special on golf in the South American country.

According to Proexport, Colombia has some 50 gold courses around the country.
