A new survey shows that Bogota has the sixth largest economy of any city in Latin America, reports Portfolio.com.
The Colombian capital came in at sixth place (or seventh with Miami included on the list), with a GDP of $66.75 billion in the first half of 2009.
The survey by America Economia Intelligencia, a biweekly regional business magazine, showed that the Latin American city with the largest economy was Sao Paulo (Brazil) with a GDP of $287.6 billion; followed in second place by Mexico City (Mexico) with $230.0 billion, Buenos Aires (Argentina) with $154.7 billion, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) with $101.4 billion and Santiago (Chile) with $84.7 billion.
Trailing Bogota were Monterrey (Mexico) with a GDP of $55.9 billion, Brasilia (Brazil) with $51.6 billion, Caracas (Venezuela) with $42.8 billion, San Juan (Puerto Rico) with $40.5 billion, and Lima (Peru) in tenth place with $40.2 billion.
Portfolio reports that Colombia’s capital remains an economy dominated by small business, with 87% being classed as “micro” enterprises, and only 1% as large businesses.
