Bogota to build Colombia’s biggest shopping mall

The corporation of Colombia banking mogul Luis Carlos Sarmiento on Wednesday presented plans to build to world’s biggest shopping mall in Colombia’s capital, Bogota.

The 320,000m2 building complex is estimated to cost $500 million, said Gabriel Mesa, the director of one of the construction companies of Colombia’s richest man, Luis Carlos Sarmiento.

British company Chapman Tayler, specialized in designing large public buildings, was hired to design the “El Eden” complex with will have room for more than 350 shops, 16 cinemas and 30,000 square meters of food courts.

If construction goes as planned, the construction company plans to present the world’s biggest shopping mall to the public in the second half of 2017. Construction is expected to begin in early 2015.
