Bogota is the fifth most popular destination city in Latin America and the Caribbean, a study by global credit card company Mastercard showed Tuesday.

According to the credit card company’s ranking, some 1.4 million people traveled to Bogota in 2011, almost half of top destination Sao Paulo.
Travel to the Colombian capital grew 15.2% compared to 2011
Bogota occupied this third spot of the Mastercard ranking in regards to visitor spending. According to the index, visitors spent $2.1 billion, 22.1% more than the year before and only 66% of the total amount of money spent in Sao Paulo.
According to local statistics, approximately 80% of Bogota’s foreign visitors are business travelers.
