AUC chief sentenced to 36 years for union killing

“Ernesto Baez,” one of the former leaders of paramilitary organization AUC, was sentenced to 36 years in jail Thursday for the murder of a union leader in 2001.

A Bogota judge considered the jailed paramilitary warlord guilty of the murder of a union leader in the town of Yondo, Antioquia on December 21, 2001.

According to the ruling, Baez, who was leading the AUC’s Central Bolivar Bloc at that time, had ordered the killing.

A subordinate of Baez, “Julian Bolivar,” was sentenced to 18 and a half years in prison for the same murder.
