Medellin side Atletico Nacional won the first of this year’s two Colombian soccer leagues after convincingly beating the Bogota-based Santa Fe with 0-2.

The second leg of the final began with a slight advantage for Santa Fe who on Sunday had succeeded in keeping their rivals at 0-0 while playing in Medellin.

However, the paisas had recovered impressively from their disappointing performance in the home game and impeded the team from the capital to get in the game.

Nacional player Jefferson Duque materialized his team’s dominance in the game after the striker’s solo sprint and almost unstoppable shot put his team in the lead after 36 minutes of playing.

Santa Fe were not able to recover from the blow and, in spite of trying to set up an offensive strategy to recover the lost point, failed to reach the level of soccer being played by their opponents and proved too vulnerable to the counterattacks of Nacional.

The bogotanos’ hope was undoubtedly dimmed in the 84th minute when Luis Fernando Mosquera scored Nacional’s second goal.

In the remaining ten minutes — the referee added four minutes extra time — Santa Fe proved broken and were unable to become a real danger to the paisas’ dream to add a 12th star to their shield.
