Anti-mafia prosecutor’s sister in bed with drug trafficker

The sister of the director of the Prosecutor General’s Office anti-organized crime unit was arrested for her involvement in one of Colombia’s main drug trafficking organizations.

According to newspaper El Tiempo, Alma Isabel Duran, the sister of chief prosecutor Margarita Duran, surrendered to authorities in March this year alleging her life was in danger for knowing too much about the financial ins and outs of drug trafficking organization “Los Paisas.”

Duran had reportedly been the girlfriend of “El Repetido” or “El Calvo” who ran the drug trafficking organization’s operations in the Antioquia department.

Following her surrender, Duran entered a witness protection program as prosecutors claimed that sending her to jail would be too dangerous.

17 alleged members of Los Paisas, including police officials, were arrested in November thanks to testimonies by Duran, El Tiempo reported.

The chief prosecutor told the newspaper that she hadn’t had contact with her sister for six years and was not aware of her sister’s activities.
