Eighty-seven rock and metal bands from Colombia and around the world, including US bands Anthrax and Black Label Society, will descend on Colombia’s capital city August 16 to 18 for Bogota’s three-day Rock in the Park festival.
Organized by Bogota’s Institute of the Arts, Rock in the Park is a free event attended by more than 400,000 people in the capital’s expansive Simon Bolivar Park, according to the event’s official website.
Though rock has been the lifeblood of this festival since 1995, a variety of different genres are represented in this year’s line-up, including punk, reggae, ska rock, reggaeton, metal, and blues.
Metal bands to perform at Rock in the Park include Soulfly (Brazil/US), US bands Anthrax, Black Label Society (with Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde), Pro-Pain, and Fishbone, and UK band Killswitch Engage.
Issuing forth an entirely different sound is Guyanese dub producer Mad Professor, as well as Jamaican rhythm section Sly & Robbie, who have worked with the likes of Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh, and the Skatalites. Also to perform is Puerto Rican reggae band Cultura Profetica.
Dusting off their leather jackets to grace the more riotous stage include Medellin hardcore punk band IRA, as well as The Casualties (US), and The Tryouts (Colombia).
To mark the festival’s 20-year anniversary, there have been workshops in audiovisual production, electric guitar, and singing throughout July in the lead up to the event, according to the event’s official website.
In previous years, Rock in the Park’s headlining acts included Bloc Party and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
Gates open at 10AM, and acts run from midday through to 11PM for the three days.
