Six Colombians killed in machete massacre

Authorities are investigating the massacre of six Colombians, including a minor, by machete in the town of Buenavista, in Colombia’s north-west violence-ridden department of Cordoba between Sunday night and Monday morning.

A group of unknown people reportedly entered the houses of the victims and slit their throats using machetes and razors, El Espectador reported.

Locals only alerted authorities to the massacre at midday on Monday. Authorities have not yet established a motive for the multiple murders but speculate they may be the product of confrontation between rival small scale drug trafficking organizations in the Cordoba department.

A recent spate of massacres in the neighboring Antioquia department have also been attributed to a turf war between rival drug trafficking organizations.
