Colombian police offer reward for 40 smuggling operation bosses

Colombian police have identified 40 alleged bosses of contraband smuggling operations across Colombia, and have offered a reward for information leading to their capture, reported El Tiempo Wednesday.

Police Commander Oscar Naranjo announced the aliases of 40 high-ranking smugglers, as well as 29 Colombian companies with links to the black market.

Anyone with information pertaining to the top 10 most wanted smugglers is offered a reward between $2,825 and $56,500, the official said.

Authorities will distribute nearly 22,000 posters with the aliases of the wanted individuals, who allegedly have influence in at least 15 Colombian departments.

The police have already seized nearly $11 million worth of contraband and plan to expand their crackdown on the black market will the help of public officials, Naranjo said.

The venders of the San Andresito shopping complexes, the epicenters of Bogota’s contraband culture, have been most affected by the recent seizures, the police chief said.

“We expect to bring charges against those who continue to introduce illegal goods,” Naranjo warned.
