Police capture girlfriend of most wanted drug trafficker

Police arrested the alleged girlfriend of one of the most wanted narcotraffickers in eastern Colombia, reported local media Thursday.

The raid targeted Victor Ramon, alias “Megateo,” the suspected head of the EPL, a leftist group thought to have allied with the FARC and the ELN to facilitate drug trafficking in the eastern department of Norte de Santander, along the Venezuelan border. The leader managed to evade capture, but officials arrested the woman known as alias “Esmeralda” or “Jackeline” and two members of Megateo’s security detail.

Esmeralda is suspected of assisting in the transport of drugs and private arms stolen from the Colombian army. Her boyfriend is among the 20 most wanted drug traffickers in Norte de Santander, according to El Tiempo newspaper.
