Once Caldas and Junior to play Copa Mustang final

Once Caldas and Junior of Baranquilla are the two finalists of the 2009
Copa Mustang I. The two successfully defended their respective leads.

In Tunja, Once Caldas earned a 2-3 win over Boyaca Chico to avoid having to depend on the result in the other Group A game. Ariel Carreño made it 0-1 on 20 minutes although Marco Perez levelled in minute 40.

Chico then went ahead through Mario Garcia in the 58th minute but two goals from Johan Fano (minutes 67 and 78) saw Once Caldas through to the final.

Until Once Caldas’ final goal, La Equidad were on course for a spot in the final. The Bogota outfit beat Deportes Tolima 1-0 with a goal from Fernando Oliveira de Avila in the 44th minute.

Once Caldas earned ten points from their six group games, one more than La Equidad. Tolima finish third and Chico are last.

In Group B, Junior needed a draw with Deportivo Cali to advance based on goal record. The 2-2 result therefore, was just enough for the Barranquilla side to do so.

Cali had a great first half at their own Pascual Guerrero stadium, with goals from Pablo Batalla in the 32nd and 35th minutes.

But the home fans began to worry when Teofilo Gutierrez pulled one back seven minutes after the hour, and another five minutes had passed when club icon Giovanni Hernandez levelled the score.

In the other game, which was of no importance to the final outcome of this group, Envigado and Cucuta Deportivo held each other to a 2-2 draw.
