Medellin landslide: 30 bodies recovered, 94 people missing

Rescue workers in Bello, Antioquia, have so far recovered 30 bodies from the site where a landslide buried 35 houses on Sunday, while 94 people are still missing and feared dead.

Ever since the tragedy hit the town that borders Medellin in the north, volunteers, policemen and soldiers have been working around the clock to try to find survivors of the landslide.

President Juan Manuel Santos is expected to visit the disaster site on Tuesday morning, after cutting short a visit to New York where he was attending a meeting of countries taking part in the International Criminal Court. Several of his ministers have been in Antioquia since Monday.

According to newspaper El Tiempo, the first victims of the landslide will be buried on Tuesday.

The rescue workers are expected to be busy for weeks clearing the site and recovering the bodies of those who are still buried under the 50,000 cubic meters of earth.
