Medellin’s second Women and the Arts Festival, which opens Thursday, aims to strengthen women’s role in art and culture through painting, sculpture and performance workshops.

The Medellin mayor invites all artists from the city to participate in various activities which will take place over a three-month period.

Subway stations and city parks will be the venues for the festival, which aims to publicize and strengthen women’s role in art and culture.

Over 20 events will take place on six days between December 2010 and March 2010 to pay homage to female artists and their creative work.

The festival will open at 7PM on December 9, 2010, at the Cultural Center of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Antioquia, and runs until March 8, 2011.
