Colombian intelligence claim to have uncovered an document written by FARC commander in chief “Alfonso Cano” containing plans to “infiltrate” the Andean country’s national bicentenary celebrations on July 20. The evidence was reportedly found on the computer of deceased guerrilla Magaly Grannobles, alias “Mayerli”.
According to W Radio, the document was broken down into eight points and addressed to leaders of the organisation’s Eastern, Sothern and Carribean blocs.
In the memo, Alfonso Cano reportedly ordered the commanders in the departments of Choco, Cauca, Huila, Putumayo, Cesar, Bolivar, Norte de Santander, Boyaca and Antioquia to mobilize their troops.
W Radio quotes Alfonso Cano as saying “this is the opportunity to promote the people’s current struggle for a second independence against the world’s most powerful empire.”
Mayerli, who also went by the other nom de guerre “Marleny Rondon”, was the head of Alfonso Cano’s bodyguard unit, before she was killed in the early hours of 11 July during a Colombian military raid. Colombian intelligence operatives are said to be trawling through data held on Magali’s computer, which they seized following the operation.
