Disgraced former senator Yidis Medina reports son missing

Yidis Medina, the former senator who is currently under house arrest for accepting bribes from government officials, said Thursday her fifteen-year-old son has been missing since Tuesday.

According to Medina, her son Mayner did not return after leaving home with a schoolmate.

The boy left home around 9AM to do homework with a friend from school who, according to Medina’s family, had recently arrived to Bogota from Barbosa, Santander.

Mayner Salcedo Medina never arrived at the Panamerico Distrital college, located across the street from the United States embassy, where he was expected to attend classes that afternoon.

The boy allegedly left the house with two bags full of clothes and had said he was going to accompany his friend to the bus terminal. He left a note for his mother ending with the mysterious words “see you at the ‘use’.”

Yidis Medina is currently serving a four-year house arrest sentence for accepting bribes from officials in Alvaro Uribe’s administration to change her vote in favour of the constitutional change needed for the 2006 re-election of the president. She had previously claimed have to received death threats over her testimonies that incriminated several (former) members of the Uribe cabinet.
