Convicted Nule brothers ‘receive death threats’

The convicted former directors of construction conglomerate Nule Group have allegedly received death threats for breaking of a code of silence during their trial, Colombian media reports.

The law firm representing brothers Manuel, Miguel and Guido Nule, together with fourth director Mauricio Galofre, reported receiving a lengthy document outlining death threats against the former directors late on Tuesday.

The document was apparently sent from Itagui prison, south of Medellin, and accused the men of breaking a code of silence taken by members of the “Contracting Cartel,” refering to those involved in the 2010 Bogota embezzlement scandal for which the men were convicted.

Security fears were first raised late last year, when emails from the law firm were allegedy intercepted. The latest threats — which allegedly also warn the lawyers that their homes, friends and internet activity are being monitored — have been reported to Colombia’s Prosecutor General’s Office in a request for protection.

The Nule Group directors were convicted last December of embezzling millions of dollars awarded to their company for public construction works in Bogota, and sentenced to seven years in prison.
