The new film “Colombiana,” by French director Luc Besson, draws themes related to Colombian drug trafficking into the world of Hollywood action thrillers, reported art and events site shock.com.
In the upcoming film, American actress Zoe Saldana, from the animated Oscar-winner “Avatar,” is the story’s protagonist, Cataleya Restrepo, a Bogota native who watches her parents brutally murdered on the orders of a drug trafficking boss at the age of 10.
Cateleya manages to escape to Chicago, where she spends the rest of her childhood living with her uncle, who is also tied up in the world of crime. She later becomes a professional assassin looking to avenge her parents’ death.
The movie will premiere in the United States on September 2.
