Colombian lawmaker arrested inside Congress building

A Colombian congressman was arrested on embezzlement charges Wednesday inside the congress building in Bogota.

Jorge Mesa, a Conservative Party representative for the Caldas department, was apprehended after Colombia’s Supreme Court ordered his arrest.

The politician is suspected of having embezzled money while being the director of the government’s public housing office in his home department.

Mesa is the second Conservative Party politician who found himself in trouble with the law Wednesday; another Conservative was sentenced to 10 years in jail for ripping people off in a real estate scam.
