Bogota to host Colombia’s largest earthquake drill ever

President Alvaro Uribe and Bogota Mayor Samuel Moreno will coordinate the largest tremor drill in Colombia’s history.

The drill will take place at 62 emergency scenarios in Bogota, will last 52 hours starting at 11:00 AM on October 9, and will involve 600 local, national and international rescuers. A group of disaster experts from different international agencies will also be on the scene to perform an independent evaluation.

The  $1.2 billion COP simulation aims at assessing the city’s capability to respond to earthquakes of high magnitude.

According to Colombian seismological authorities, Bogota is close to the boundaries of three major geological faultlines.
