Bogota mayor: ICC should investigate wiretap scandal

Bogota’s mayor Samuel Moreno Rojas called for the International Criminal Court to investigate the illegal wiretapping activities of Colombian security agency DAS, CM& reported Wednesday.

Speaking after a meeting with Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, Moreno told reporters that it is important to investigate and punish those who ordered the wiretappings and surveillance, not only the DAS officials who carried out the illegal activity.

The mayor said that the surveillance of opposition politicians was most unacceptable of all the wiretapping activity that took place.

Moreno spoke in reference to an ongoing investigation into the scandal-hit Colombian agency, which has revealed the body’s illegal wiretapping and surveillance of a number of the country’s judges, journalists, opposition politicians, and trade-unionists.
