23 Urabeños arrested, drug plant destroyed

The Colombian army captures 23 members of criminal organisation “Los Urabeños” and destroys their multi-million dollar drug plant, El Espectador reported Friday.

The detainees were captured in an operation in the Murri River area in the municipality of Vigia del Fuerte, in Colombia’s central Antioquia department. Two minors were captured in the operation, and have been delivered to the Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF).

The troops reported that they found and destroyed crystallizing apparatus, a range of chemicals in large quantities, two boats and other miscellaneous items.

Military sources believe the site capable of producing 1000kg of drugs monthly at an estimated value of COP5 billion ($2.6 million).

Military operations in the Antioquia department have been intensified to find the remaining members of Los Urabeños organisation.
