American Airlines flights to Colombia unaffected by bankruptcy

American Airlines flights to Colombia will not be affected by the parent company filing for bankruptcy Tuesday.

The company said on its website, “American Airlines, American Eagle and All Other Subsidiaries Operating Normal Flight Schedules, Honoring All Tickets and Reservations.”

American Airlines, owned by AMR Corporation, operates flights from Miami to Medellin, Bogota, and Cali.

The company went on to say that the supply of goods and services will be uninterrupted due to $4.1 billion it has in cash.

The company, based in Fort Worth, Texas, filed for a Chapter 11 reorganization in the United States bankruptcy court as this is in the “best interest of the company and its stakeholders.”

The carrier is the last major U.S. airline to file for bankruptcy, which gives protection from creditors and allows for major savings in labor costs.

Thomas Horton, the company’s chairman and chief executive, said “Throughout the restructuring process, as always, our customers remain our top priority and they can continue to depend on us for the safe, reliable travel and high quality service they know and expect from us. We intend to maintain a strong.presence in domestic and international markets.”

Maria Pabon, spokesperson for Aerocivil, Colombia’s avaition authority told Colombia Reports,”We have not heard anything yet, so we are not yet able to comment on the issue.”
