Uribe wins award for ‘model’ Colombia

Business magazine Latin Trade will give Colombia’s former president Alvaro Uribe an award for creating a “model for Latin America by rebuilding a new Colombia and establishing a renewed sense of national pride.”

Uribe will be awarded a lifetime achievement award at the 16th Annual Latin Trade BRAVO Business Awards in Miami on October 29, the magazine announced Monday.

Other award winners are Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim, Inter-American Development Bank director Luis Alberto Moreno, and Ronald Pantin, CEO of Pacific Rubiales Energy, an Colombo-Canadian oil company.

Uribe has widely been praised for Colombia’s successful fight against leftist FARC-rebels and an increase in foreign investment, but has also been criticized over his human rights record.
