9 assassinated in massacre outside Medellin: Police

Medellin police said Monday that nine people have been assassinated in a massacre in a holiday home just outside Colombia’s second largest city.

According to the local police commissioner, General Yesid Vasquez, the bodies of five men and four women were found in a home in the rural part of Envigado, a town bordering Medellin to the south.

Vasquez told radio station La FM the nine victims were “apparently” shot to death.

Medellin and other parts of the surrounding Antioquia department have seen a sharp increase in homicides over the past year.
