8 killed in Medellin, El Peñol shootings

Eight people were killed and one was injured in two separate shooting incidents in Medellin and the close-by town of El Peñol Wednesday evening.

The Medellin shooting took place in a slum in the east of the city, close to the road connecting the capital of Antioquia with the airport of Rionegro.

According to several media, five men were shot by an armed group around 8PM. One of the men survived the attack. Local police suspect the shooting was a retaliation between gangs operating in the La Sierra neighborhood.

The El Peñol shooting took place just after midnight in a holiday home. The victims are four young men from Medellin and Itagui who were in the holiday home for a vacation. Police have not ruled out the possibility the assassins were also from Medellin.
