7 ELN guerillas captured in Norte de Santander

Seven guerillas from the leftist insurgent group ELN were captured by Colombian authorities on Tuesday in the Norte de Santander department.

Units of the Colombian military’s 30th Brigade reported that they captured the guerillas, who had been harassing and threatening businesses and farmers in the area, during a counter-insurgency operation in the town of Sardinata, reported Caracol Radio.

According to authorities, when the guerillas were captured they were transporting on horseback a large quantity of drugs, arms, and cylinders.

Norte de Santander is a Colombian department on the border of Venezuela that is plagued by drug trafficking and illegally-armed groups such as ELN, the FARC, and other paramilitary organizations.
