5 assassinated in southwest Colombia massacre

Five suspected members of drug trafficking organization “Los Rastrojos” were assassinated outside a bar in the southwest of Colombia Sunday.

According to the mayor of Tumaco, the town where the massacre took place, the five were killed when leaving the bar and were ambushed by “several armed men that indiscriminately opened fire.”

One person survived the shooting and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Tumaco has had the highest murder rate in Colombia for years and, because of its strategic location on the Pacific coast, is home to numerous drug trafficking and guerrilla groups.
