191 guerrillas demobilized in June

A total of 191 FARC and ELN guerrillas demobilized in June, according to the Colombian Defense Ministry’s Program for Humanitarian Attention for the Demobilized (PAHD), Efe reports.

Of the demobilized guerrillas, 168 reportedly belonged to the FARC, while 23 belonged to the ELN. Among those who laid down their arms were 24 minors.

Cundinamarca, the department of which Bogota is the capital, registered the highest number of demobilized guerrillas, with a figure of 43. The Caqueta department followed with 34, then Meta and Boyaca with thirteen each and Huila with eleven. Other Colombian departments registered lower figures.

According to PAHD, since last year 2,638 guerrillas have deserted, while a total of 21,820 have deserted since August 2002 – an annual average of 2,182.
