19 members of ‘Don Mario’s’ organization arrested

Colombia’s prosecution on Tuesday arrested 19 members of a drug
trafficking group that allegedly belonged to the organization of jailed
capo ‘Don Mario’ before he was sent to prison.

The captured belong to the drug trafficking gang ‘The Urabeños’ that was founded by members of the paramilitary group ‘Aguilas negras’ after drug king pin ‘Don Mario’ was arrested and sent to jail. ‘Don Mario’ is alleged to have worked very closely with the ‘Aguilas negras’.

The arrests have not yet been legalized because a judge refused to do so. Jaime Cuervo, director of the CTI for the prosecution of Sincelejo, capital of Sucre department, called on judicial authorities to legalize the arrests.

“The judge for legalizing captures in Sincelejo declared himself incompetent [to legalize the arrests] because there is a lack of pronouncement of the Supreme Court for public orders. Our prosecutor has to go from town to town to get a legalization running the risk that the legal period for arresting expires,” Cuervo told Radio W.
