16 members of ‘Los Rastrojos’ turn themselves in

16 members of notorious Colombian gang ‘Los Rastrojos’ fled their faction and surrendered voluntarily to the Armed Forces, reported news station Radio Santa Fe on Monday.

Along with themselves, the reprobates handed over to the authorities six rifles, a submachine gun, two pistols, a mortar, 1,520 rounds of ammunition, 18 grenades and several military forces uniforms, stated Radio Santa Fe.

Subsequently, security forces arrested six other members of the same gang who were also in possession of innumerable fire arms as well as communication equipment and Army issue vests.

‘Los Rastrojos’ are a band of gun-toting, drug trafficking, paramilitaries set up by the late Wilber ‘Jabon’ Varela. The gang is labelled as one of the three most powerful narco-paramilitary forces in Colombia and operates across a wide region of the country.

The gang is considered to contribute to the continued proliferation of violence and disruption throughout Colombia and remains a perpetual hindrance to the Colombian peace process.
