1000 arrests in Bogota police crackdown

Bogota police have arrested more than 1,000 people in 100 hours in a massive offensive against urban crime, local authorities said Thursday.

According to a police report, 283 people were arrested on suspiction of armed robbery and 247 for drug trafficking and manufacturing.

The arrests included 130 minors captured for alleged crimes including robbing travelers on public transportation at gun point.

The arrests are part of the city’s new crime prevention plans, supplemented by information from Bogota’s Cooperation Network – a citizen informer network, which led to the capture of 98 suspects.
