‘Venezuelan drug trafficker’ detained in Colombia

Colombian authorities detained a presumed Venezuelan drug trafficker in the eastern department of Boyaca, reported local media Thursday.

The suspect,  has been wanted by Venezuelan authorities and Interpol since April of this year.

According to the Venezuelan National Guard, Benigno was instrumental in the shipment of 3,360 kg of cocaine hidden in ceramic glue packages from Venezuela in April. The shipment’s final destination was reportedly Mexico, according to Venezuelan authorities.

“The ongoing Colombian investigation shows that this person is member of a drug trafficking organization [that moves product] from Colombia to the exterior, especially Europe, using Venezuela as transit country,” according to Venezuelan police reports.

Reports also noted that Benigno was an expert in the sophisticated camouflage of narcotics, making him an important link in the trafficking network.

“We also know he has access to or contacts in different laboratories located in Norte de Santander, that are processing drugs not just for the network he belongs to but also for others,” the police report said.
