US Davis Cup team to travel to Colombia

The U.S. team will travel to Colombia to try to keep its spot in the top tier of the Davis Cup.

The U.S. was drawn Tuesday to face host Colombia in the World Group playoffs from Sept. 17-19, with the winner advancing to next year’s top flight and the loser going into the second-tier zonal group.

The U.S., without Andy Roddick and James Blake, lost 3-2 to Serbia in the first round of this year’s Davis Cup in Belgrade in March. It was the first time since 2005 that the Americans — who have won 32 Davis Cup titles — went out in the opening round.

Colombia reached the playoffs by beating Canada 4-1 in Bogota. (AP)
