The United States on Tuesday congratulated Colombia on the success of it’s presidential election, saying that it reflected a “vibrant democratic process,” reported Semana.
The U.S. State Department offered its brief congratulations to Colombia via its account on the social networking website Twitter.
The Tweet read, “U.S. congratulate the Colombian people participating in Sunday’s presidential election; indicates Colombia’s vibrant democratic process.”
Presidential candidate for Colombia’s Partido de la U, Juan Manuel Santos, was the winner Sunday’s election, gaining 46.5% of the votes.
Santos and Green Party candidate Antanas Mockus will go head to head in the second round of Colombia’s presidential election on June 20.
