US National Drug Control to visit Colombia: Uribe

Colombia’s President Alvaro Uribe announced Monday that the Director of U.S. Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) will visit Colombia in September.

Monday morning, Uribe met with Gil Kerlikowske, director of the ONDCP, during his visit to the White House.

We talked about the drug policy in general and Kerlikowske promised to visit Colombia in September, Uribe said in a press release.

Colombia’s President highlighted the most recent report of the United Nations which said that cocaine production in Colombia fell by 28 per cent in 2008.

“We are not satisfied [with this figure] and must review how to achieve better results”, Uribe said.

During the meeting with the Director of ONDCP, Uribe reiterated the need to implement a policy that addresses the drug problem in a more comprehensive away, from production to consumption.
