US and Colombian defense ministers meet

Colombian Defense Minister Juan Carlos Pinzon will meet with his United States counterpart on Monday, the ministry has announced.

It did not provide details of the topics up for discussion when Pinzon meets with Leon Panetta at the Fort Tolemaida military base, the main training centre of the Colombian army.

The U.S. and Colombian militaries have a history of close relations — including funding and training from U.S. forces through Plan Colombia, the name given to American anti-drug trafficking and anti-insurgency efforts in the country.
