Uribe: We must work tirelessly for final 150 days in power

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe asked members of his government to work “tirelessly” in the last 150 days in office.

“150 days, friends of the government, without rest. 150 days, friends of the government, to produce results that we still have not been able to obtain. 150 days of evaluating ourselves, challenging ourselves to serve Colombia more every minute,” the president said at his weekly community council.

Uribe also called on the armed forces to increase offensives against leftist guerrillas and neo-paramilitary drug gangs.

“Hopefully in these 150 remaining days of the goverment … we can do an exemplary job, defeat what is left of the guerrilla, and completely defeat the drug gangs that continue to extort and kill,” Uribe said in Santa Marta.

Uribe is entering the final months of his eight years of government. Attempts by his followers to allow the president to run for a third term were denied by the country’s constitutional court.
