Uribe to talk to Courts about wiretaps

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe invited the president’s of the
country’s high courts, the Prosecutor general and the Inspector General
to talk about the alleged illegal wiretapping practices of intelligence
agency DAS.

The presidents of the courts accepted the request and will meet the President and the Defense Ministerand teh Interior and Justice Minister Monday.

The court presidents earlier demanded of Uribe that he gave a public statement about the alleged wiretapping of Supreme Court judges, journalists and opposition politicians by the DAS. Uribe ignored that request.

Instead, Uribe said he will maintain a constructive dialogue with the courts.
