Uribe to launch own website

Colombia’s former president Alvaro Uribe will soon launch his own website.

According to state radio station Radio Nacional de Colombia, the former head of state will publish information about politics and his personal opinion about current events at alvarouribeprimerocolombia.com.

Ricardo Galan, a former press secretary to Uribe, did not rule out the possibility that the URL, which on Friday morning was not yet registered, will be the platform for future electoral campaigns of the former president.

Earlier this week, Uribe announced that he would actively campaign in the 2011 local and departmental elections in Colombia.

Uribe remains highly popular in Colombia, and allies of the former president had attempted to change the constitution to allow him to run for a third term in power, but were blocked by the Constitutional Court.

After this decision was made public, Uribe hinted that he might run for mayor of Bogota in October 2011.

Uribe has not been idle since his second term as president ended on August 7. On August 10 he began serving as vice chairman on a United Nations inquiry into an Israeli attack on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla, and on September 9 he gave his first lecture as a guest professor at Washington D.C.’s Georgetown University.
