President George W. Bush’s staunchest ally in Latin America apparently believes Barack Obama will be the next U.S. president.
At least that’s what Colombian President Alvaro Uribe indicated during a public debate with trade union leaders.
Uribe
said Monday that he plans to tell Sen. Obama — “when he is president of
the United States” — that unions in Colombia face fewer restrictions
than the Democratic presidential nominee might think.
Colombia’s judicial workers have been on strike for 50 days.
Obama
cites violence against unionists — 31 have been killed so far this year
— in opposing a free trade agreement with Colombia.
His opponent, Republican Sen. John McCain, backs the treaty, which is stalled in the U.S. Congress. (AP)
