Colombia President Alvaro Uribe Wednesday ignored the country’s high
courts’ request to speak out about the wiretap scandal that
hit intelligence agency DAS. Uribe did make a statement, but ignored
the scandal.
In a brief statement published on the Presidency’s website, Uribe says to continue to have “sincere, open and constructive” talks with the courts “in the search for a better institutional relation with all courts.”
However, the President made no references to the alleged illegal wiretapping of judges, journalists and opposition politicians or the magistrates’ request for a public statement on the matter.
The Courts had demanded the President to speak out on the alleged illegal wiretapping after a meeting with Prosecutor General Mario Iguaran, who is in charge of the investigation of the DAS.
