During the Sixth International Symposium on Energy and Border technology in Medellin, Colombian President Alvaro Uribe announced he was hopeful that in the next few days his nation will reach an agreement with neighbor Panama on the construction of an electricity cable between the two nations
Uribe said the Ministry of Mining and Energy had sent a commission to Panama to work on the agreement. The head of state added that pending the agreement’s approval, Colombia planned to lay a submarine cable to transmit electricity to the Caribbean, and perhaps even supply energy to the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rican markets.
The president also reminded symposium participants that during the recent drought Colombian had been able to supply Ecuador with electricity, which the leader attributed to good management on the part of the Ministry of Mining and Energy.
