Uribe doesn’t seek re-election

Colombia’s former president Alvaro Uribe said Monday he doesn’t seek re-election as president or any other political position.

“I am neither planning to run as vice president nor looking to change the [Colombian] constitution that would allow me to be re-elected. This would damage the country,” said Uribe.

“Some are arguing I want to be president through the backdoor of first becoming vice president. This debate overrides other debates that the country needs, such as about public order and economy,” added the former president.

However, Uribe said he wants to continue doing politics because he has a commitment to the country.

Uribe was president of Colombia from 2002 and 2010.
