Colombian Congress will call upon the sons of President Álvaro Uribe to hear their testimony regarding recent insider trading allegations.
Sen. Cecilia Lopez, who is heading the debate against Jeronimo and Tomas, said the matter has become an ethical problem. According to Lopez, Tomas was involved with suspected money launderer DMG as little as six months ago.
The brothers are being asked to present their tax returns to congress on May 12. Head of Senate Hernan Andrade assured website Terra Colombia that the matter will be handled with caution.
“The focus of this debate is how administrative decisions can benefit the president’s sons,” Andrade said.
Congress is investigating the Uribe son after journalist Daniel Coronel alleged that the brothers had illegally gotten rich off of land in western Colombia when it was declared a free trade zone.
